UK call centres

Morning anyone who is on this forum. This is the first time I have done this so please forgive me if it's the wrong thread....etc
I am currently with British Gas. They are incredibly incompetent !! After calling them up to try and sort things out ; I have spoken to two people in India and then one person in S Africa. I had a real problem with understanding one of the accents , but had to repeat everything 3 times to each person.
Anyhow , I am desperate to change supplier, British gas is expensive, incompetent and I do not understand or like speaking to operators in other countries. So my question to any one that can help is my priority is a company that only has uk call centres..

  • Here in the UK we ve got some real humdinger strong accents, mine for instance, and even I struggle to understand Kevin Bridges`s Glaswegion. I think these call centres in India have a real job on their hands getting to grips with all our various accents, Brummie, Geordie, Sarf London etc etc

Ovo spoke English in my dealings with them .
  • As far as I'm aware OVO Customer Services are all currently based in Bristol.

But why call at all? You don't need to speak to anyone to switch. Find the best tariff using a comp site then switch using a cashback site. The whole process can be done online in less than twenty minutes.

Because a good rant over the phone is infinitely more satisfying than just writing it down.
Again there is the possibility of actually speaking to a person might get a result where an e-mail just get's lost in the ether - sadly it doesn't.

Most call centre operatives seem to work to a script and are unable or unwilling to actually take responsibility to either acknowledge a problem or see it through to it's conclusion.
That's why you get passed from one to another in the hope that you'll either get lost or give up.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers

In the past 5 years I've been with BG, EDF and now Ovo. I can't recall having to ever phone any of them, and both my switches have been done online. If they get the billing right, there's very little reason why you should ever need to call them.
I had a couple of DD queries while with EDF, and they were quickly resolved through their messaging system.

  • Any how thank you for that... But is there an energy supplier that has its call centres and admin centres on in the uk ?

It's not just the accent tho is it...when I ring BG and get an Indian call centre the accent is just half the problem, then you have to deal with them not reading from the correct script, I have just posted a question on here asking for help, even tho I was speaking with an Indian call center for 10 mins, after the call I was more confused than I was before ringing.

And whilst you are correct we have a lot of accents here, we tend to understand them far easier, as we have heard them on TV etc...but as said it's more than the accent it's cultural too, there is more to a language then a straight translation.

Not sure why you mention they may find it hard understanding us, we are the customers, if that is a concern, maybe BG should spend some of their huge profits employing people from this country in UK call centres.

  • We're with Utility Warehouse - everytime I've called they've been UK based call centres and very helpful. They've got other offers too such as cashback cards which give cashback on purchased against your bill and phone \ broadband etc. Depends on what is right for you
