Bats in Eaves

I know they are protected etc etc., but any ideas as to rid them ?

They are not a heath risk in any way so just leave them be.

We have put in plans for a side extension to our semi detached house, but the council want us to have a survey (£150) to confirm that ther are no bats nesting in the roof space, we have no bats in the space & furthermore we only had a complete re-roof some 2 years ago .We are bird lovers , & there is no evidence of any bats or any birds nesting, surely this is a complete waste of our well earned money , that we have saved to get this extension to extend for our family, our good neighbours have been consulted about the proposal & we have no problems with them, what do you people think?, is there anything we can do to waste this money on a survey of proof.

Isn't the question, How to avoid paying for a bat survey?.

Have a lot of smokey BBQs

Put a cup of mothballs in the middle of a small square of hessian and tie near the area where the bats are nesting

Hang strips of tin foil in the roosting areas and allow them to flicker in the breeze.

I wonder which of the following those suggestions fall foul of

This means you will be committing a criminal offence if you:

1. Deliberately capture, injure or kill a bat
2. Intentionally or recklessly disturb a bat in its roost or deliberately disturb a group of bats
3. Damage or destroy a bat roosting place (even if bats are not occupying the roost at the time)
4. Possess or advertise/sell/exchange a bat (dead or alive) or any part of a bat
5. Intentionally or recklessly obstruct access to a bat roost

Just had the same issue with a bungalow which we are building. No way to avoid the £163 fee for an ecologist to carry out a bat survey of a tree (which has now been felled).
