upgrading my barclays initial to barclays

ive had my barclays initial card for 10 months now ,always pay on time etc ,do i need have the card for a certain time b4 i can get upgrade?
and how do i get upgrade? do i just ask or need apply for it
also everything on my credit file is clean etc no missed payments etc bar 1 default which is 5 yrs old for small amount

I've held a credit card with Barclays for just over a year now, starting with a barclaycard initial.
Over the months my credit limit went from £250 up to £2000 back in June/July. I called up and they were more than happy to upgrade my card to Platinum. However the interest rate remained at 34% with nothing more they could do for me.

I was advised by barclaycard to apply for another card with them in the hope I would be accepted with a much lower interest rate. Last month I applied for a Freedom Rewards card and was approved at 18% and another £2000 limit. When closing my old Platinum they even transferred my limit over to my new card, making a combined limit of £4000.

I've found barclays always willing to help, so long as you've paid your bills on time and run your account well they look after you
