Contribution based ESA and earnings

Hi there, could anyone please give me advice on earnings limits for someone on contribution based ESA? The letter from the benefits dept states that it isn't affected by earnings but this doesn't seem likely. Any advice gratefully received please.

  • The weekly limit for permitted work is £101 4 upto 15.59 hours (1st oct = £104). You need to fill in form PW1 & return it to DWP. You get to keep that as well as the ESA.
  • OK many thanks. I got confused because I was told that was just for income based ESA, thanks very much :-)

The information provided about permitted work are correct, however if you continue to receive company sick pay after Statutory Sick Pay has ended that is disregarded for Contributions based ESA. About the only money taken into account for Conts claims is pension income. Even then there is an £85 pw disregard and 50% of anything above that is also disregarded.
  • This is for someone in the support group of contribution based ESA who is trying to return to work after some years. Thank you
  • If in S|G then they can do that indefinitely as there's no time limit on that.
  • OK very many thanks for all your help x
  • Although do be prepared when notification is given by you to DWP ESA department for return to or permitted work, that the claimant will most likely be sent out a ESA50 medical questionnaire to fill in and return to them, this may also the prompt another WCA medical upon review of the ESA50.
  • OK many thanks. He doesn't have to have medicals any more but will let you know what happens. Ta

DWP can review a claimant at any time they wish, changes to circumstance is usually is the big player in prompting them to review a claimants entitlement, and something as big as permitted work or return can trigger a review.

I didn't think there was a earning limit when you are on CB ESA.
