Somebody bought a brand new car, did 2 miles then never drove it again, how strange0
-
Possibly ordered it, became ill, had it delivered then was too ill to drive it and eventually died.
It happens.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

Yes it does, unfortunatly.
When I used to go to auction, quite often in Motability sales, cars would have covered similarly low miles, as the user had sadly passed, or become to infirm to make use of their vehicle.
This one was 'found' in a garage, set for demolition.

Or possibly two miles in a Maestro was enough for him.0

Maestros were great cars, huge inside, comfortable, did well to the gallon, but THE RUST.
The only trouble I had with mine was the passenger side strut top bearing and THE RUST.
(mind you, that was in The Olden Days when the roads were like billiard tables compared to what they are like now, I doubt if the suspension would survive)I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

I'm sure the short drive made the owner ill, renouncing for ever more an interest in driving.
MG and turbo versions were great, the bread and butter ones were embarrassing examples of how short-sighted british, "innovation" was at the time.0 -

I dont agree.
At the time they were seen as decent enough cars that sold relatively well. It spawned the Montego saloon version that again was popular and sold well.
The MG and Turbo versions werent great, they were "interesting" yes, but werent "good" cars in their own right. Though they're probably the ones you'd want these days if you were interested in keeping one as a prospective classic0 -
If you remember them correctly, they were bulbous, ungainly sheds built over antique engines with minor, "advances" such as unreliable stepper motors bolted on to ancient SUs. BL couldn't even work out how to transmit the mighty power from their own A series engine, so bought in VW gearboxes instead. Typical stunted thinking from the industrial powerhouse, rehashing old rubbish while others were designing from the ground up.
Forgot to add the sporty ones were very, very fast. No doubt aided by using fag paper thin metal to reduce weight that even Fiat would have thought underpar.0 -
I Had a Maestro as a company car but didn't have it long enough to see any rust. I regularly thrashed it up and down the M11 with the steering wheel shaking , and with road noise so loud I couldn't hear the radio at all.
My only real problem with it was that the gear link thingy under the bonnet would come unlatched and I would lose all my gears. (I have no idea how to explain that in a technical manner) and each time it happened I would have to go under the bonnet and pull the linkage back. I got adept at fixing mine and the senior partners cars (they had the same issue).
I swapped it after a year and by then my white car was already looking a grubby cream due to the poor paint.
I did love that car though.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
