Painting quote

Would be interested to know if this quote is fair as there's a difference of opinion in my house.

To paint living room (13'6 x 12'4). Painter reckons it will take 2 1/2 days to do job.

Chimney breast has recently been re plastered (new stove installed) so there is obviously more work involved with a mist and white coat first before painting the entire wall.

One feature wall (blue) and other walls cream.

Ceiling + all woodwork (gloss). Also includes 2 internal doors (one of which has small glass panes so is fiddly).

Painter has also said he will stick skirting board back on where it was removed for installing the fire and make smooth the fireboard behind which was left rough.

Quote is £320 (was £360 but got 10% off for Facebook offer). We're providing all the paint.

Husband think this is high as builders he knows employ painters at £100-120 per day. I don't think this is a good comparison though!

Thoughts welcome. Many thanks

Its s fair price. If its a quote as opposed to an estimate, then its pretty decent. If it takes him more than 2.5 days and he's on a fixed price, then you wont pay anymore.

Plus he will be providing consumables such as spirit (cleaning brushes, thinning out gloss etc), caulking, plastic sheeting, sandpaper etc. This all has to be paid for.

A builder may only pay his decorators £120 a day, but he will be picking up the tab for consumables, so its not a true reflection of costs.

The guy will also be charging you for a full third day as he wont have anything booked for the other half day.

Respectfully, I think your husband is being naive.

£100-£120*2.5 = £250-£300. so not far off at the top end of builders mates rates.

Get hubby to get another quote from his mate if that concerned.

There is probably some free time in the schedule and might be a 3 day charge so if you have any other odd jobs that could be done to fill the days, or just use up some excess paint, perhaps a refresh of a ceiling in another room while the brush/rollers are in use.

That actually seems a pretty fair quote to me based on what we paid for 2 days painting, with us supplying the paints.
