Should I take out a car warranty?

Hi Folks

I bought a Seat Ibiza 2011 recently from my local dealer. The warranty lasts for 3 months and is due to run out towards end of September.

If I want to extend it, it would cost £15 per month. Do you think it is worth taking out a warranty? Is this monthly cost that the dealer has quoted, sound reasonable to you?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

  • Generally not worth the paper they are written upon.
Put the £15 away and use it to pay for any repairs.
Because you will end up doing so anyway.
I do Contracts, all day every day.

I had warranty on my car and when it came to needing to use it, they didn't do Saturday appointments and I had to wait 3 weeks before they could fit me in. Then when I got the car back, they hadn't even fixed all the problems and told me it would be another 3 weeks before they could fit me in.

Personally I would put that £15 in to a savings account each month towards any bills, chances are on a 2011 car you should be fairly trouble free anyway.

It depends who is extending the warranty, eg Seat UK, if not, as others have suggested tell the slime to do one!
The warranty's are usually only valid if a service schedule is maintained and any observations dealt with during the service. Moving parts and consumables are not covered, and the the claims are usually by redemption which means the customer pays up front and claims back (less an excess too) .
On the whole a seat should see you good for many miles.
