Aviva multi car insurance NCD earned in less than a year for 2nd car?

Very nice people at Aviva and have been using them for years.
My car insurance is due 8th October. I am looking at combining the policy with my Daughter who will be picking up a new Corsa Limited Edition on 29th October for her 18th Birthday. By combining a policy and having her as the main driver of the Corsa it would appear she can earn her own NCD but I have a worry. Her policy would end the same day as mine so would be 3 weeks short of a year.
The big question is would she earn a years NCD for a policy that would run for 49 weeks?

NCD is not an industry standard thing with universal rules and regs around them. Insurers can pretty much award what they want, subject to their own terms obviously, and other insurers are free to accept or reject them.
The only way to know for certain would be to ask Aviva, they wouldnt be the first to give a years NCD for under a years policy. Obviously you get accelerator schemes but for example when I bought my new car it was about 9 months into my existing policy and the co-branded insurer who gave the 7 days free insurance on the new car offered to count the 9 months as a full years extra NCD in an attempt to win my business.
I dont know how their mutlicar policy works but I would double check that it is "genuine" NCD that she will be earning. Some insurers, eg Direct Line, give named drivers "NDNCD" which is only recognised by themselves and cannot be used with other companies. Its still something for nothing but not as useful as some may think when buying.0 -
Thanks for the info. I will contact Aviva but I have been given duff information in the past from call centres, which is then denied so I am always a little wary as it will be nearly 12 months before I find out.0

They will round up the second car NCD at renewal time to a full year's NCD when its only 3 weeks short.0

They have quoted for my daughters car but I need my Daughter to build her own NCD so this is now looking like a no goer for me as I don't want her tied to one company at renewal time. Thanks for the answers.0

Hi smjxm09,
With us here at Aviva Direct, taking into account what you have stated, here's how things would work:
1) Adding your daughters car a few weeks after your renewal is fine and at the renewal next year, providing there's been no claims on your daughters vehicle, she would earn 1 year NCD as we'd round it up.
2) In terms of your daughter earning the NCD and not yourself, this won't be an issue. Although you may be the overall policy holder, it's the main driver of each vehicle who earns the NCD. So if you are the main user of vehicle 1, and your daughter the main driver of vehicle 2, you'd each have your own set of actual NCD (not named driver NCD which is different).
I hope this helps clarify things. If you'd like me to place a note of this on your file or have any further questions specific to your policy, please email me at social@aviva.co.uk with the following details:- Your full name
- Date of birth
- Postcode
- Policy number
Kind regards,
Marv
