It isn't a big deal. Relax.
I forgot to declare 3 speeding points for over a year and was worried sick - but it was non-issue with my insurers when I let them know about it.

A declination shouldn't have any after effects.
The long term problems you may have heard of are associated with having a cancelled policy on your record (meaning cancelled by the insurer).
Your current insurer will not be told about a competitor declining to offer you cover.
If you have changed occupation you do need to inform your current insurer.0 -
