anyone else having a problem emailing from hotmail to yahoo?

I've sent two emails in the past few days, both to yahoo addresses and both have come back with a delayed status message  anyone else having this kind of problem or is it just me?

I've had problems from Hotmail to Yahoo.

    Delays usually about 24 hours.

My mum has a Yahoo and she had also had problems with someone on AOL sending her e-mails.

Looks like Yahoo are having serious issues at the moment but I guess most of their customers won't realise.

I first noticed this a couple of weeks ago when a message got bounced back to me, but it was only one person, and there were 2 other yahoo addresses on the address list.

Now it is happening to all 3 addresses when I email this group.

very annoying since I then have to email them from my work address, but I don't want emails coming into my work address, its all a pain!

    so it isn't just you!
  • this problem is widespread and the advice is to report it to both hotmail and yahoo. i've read conflicting reports about whether or not action is being taken by them, but apparently both companies are aware.

to report to hotmail, go to:
    http://support.msn.com/eform.aspx?productKey=hotmail&page=support_home_options_form_byemail&ct=eformts

scroll down til you get to "email support"

Hi, you guys are not the only people having problems.

Actually Yahoo is the victim (although they are not treating it as such) of an overzealous spam list. The web host I'm with has a member-contributed forum, and some of the guys on there are quite high up in the general scheme of things. Apparently there is a spam IP list which has gone and put whole ranges of IPs covering many many web hosts and e-mail providers which they consider to be spammers. Yahoo does subscribe to this list ans as such many legitimate e-mails are being sent unreturned, or delayed in the system and then unreturned.

You can indeed report the matter to Yahoo, but to date I have not heard of anyone who has successfully had their e-mail block removed - whether by yahoo or the IP blacklist.

This is of course very unpopular with both web hosts, e-mail providers like myself and normal e-mail users, but there's nothing really one can do other then change e-mail provider to one that is not having problems.

It's a great shame, because only a small percentage of people are actual bulk spammers, and many of the IP ranges incorporate shared servers with thousands of individual clients, so even if 99% of them are legit, the fact that the server is shared and it's IP blocked will affect everyone.

How do I report it to Yahoo?
  • OK, thanks, will try from my Gmail account, either that or mum's email...
