  • Hope you're feeling a bit better today.
I've never though about it before, but me being stuck at home most of the time means that I have very few spendy days! There's always a silver line somewhere!?

There are plus side to being at home; it just takes time for us to appreciate them and look towards the opportunities that become available to us - and you have to take those silver linings where you can find them x

Well today has been a meeh day - I now have 9 jars of Christmas Chutney - so that is my silver lining

Went to the cinema today sat down and did not even see the credits before I walked out cause my head could take no more :rotfl:

Blooming good job I have an unlimited card :o - well plenty of painkillers and a long "nana nap" later I feel much better.

At least I remembered to fill my spending diary in - £4.30 for a coffee and a drink for me and a friend. This diary is really highlighting how many coffees I actually do have over the course of a month - dreading adding the total up at the end of this month  - at least I know one area where I will be cutting down lol

  • I agree regarding silver linings. I was always quite positive before, but since becoming ill, I'm even more so - even though a lot of the time I don't have the energy to look it!!

I've not heard of Christmas chutney - what's in it?

Oh no - which film did you attempt?

Glad that you're feeling a bit better.

I guess the thing with the coffees is balancing mortgage overpayments with still having fun. I don't know how much coffee costs, because I don't drink it, but wondered if every now and then you could switch it for something a bit cheaper? (Probably a rubbish idea - I don't get out much!!) :rotfl:

Meeh - I hate the post nothing nice ever comes to my door :o

Lots of work related stuff arrived this morning it has been expected but unsettling nevertheless

Hey ho the situation at work will be sorted once and for all at least; no matter what the outcome is

Silver lining of the day; mum bought me a bottle of wine and the bake off is on tonight - spends diary has been completed - and no panic attack after delivery of post - (well maybe a small meltdown on the phone but we won't count that :rotfl:)

So lots of positives today really - hope everyone else has a lovely day x

  • Thanks for the recipe. I'll pass it on to DW when she's past the worst of the pregnancy sickness!

I know what you mean about the post. We do postal surveys, so we do get some stamps and vouchers for what comes through our doors - something is better than nothing! The stamps come in quite handy when selling things online.

I wish someone would bring me a bottle of wine!

Hope you're having a good day.

Hi tylersbabe, hope you are feeling better after your cold and that the weekend has finally arrived. :j I second keeping that spreadsheet of where all your money is going. Mine has a 'purse' column, as well as the bank accounts with all the lists of debits going out. It makes it a little easier to predict when a tough month is on the horizon. The advance notice kind of makes it easier to put a plan in place before spendy month arrives.

That said - enjoy the coffees. :) Saving and MFWing doesn't have to be all about pain!:D
    Good, clean fun.... :D

  • Thanks Wirenth - interestingly yesterday I started just what you have suggested - well when I say started; tried to sort a spread sheet - got very confused - had  moment as not sure where to put/sort everything as it looks much more scary when you attempt to write it down for the first time - and am going to continue working on it. Honestly at my "ahem" age you would think that I would have sussed this long before now :D

Today I have made a mince meat pie and a vegetable lasagna - that gives me enough meals to get through to pay day without spending anything on food. This is good for me as normally no matter what I have in I would just have to pop to the shops for something :o

Silver Lining of the day; I made edible gluten free pastry - a first for me - chuffed does not even begin to describe how I feel about this. As my last attempt was inedible; even mum said it was nice I may have even done a little victory dance :rotfl:

And everyone's spreadsheet habits are different - you'll find one that works for you.

Recipes - have you taken a look at the Old Style board on here?

When I very first joined I used to be on there all of the time reading and using some of the fantastic ideas and recipes - but somehow over the years I stopped cooking and started buying convenience foods.

So I am going to make that my weekend job - alongside menu planning and then following the plan instead of the normal; "Oh but I am tired and cannot be bothered" so I will just quickly pop into this shop and spend lots of money and sandwiches and crisps :o

Might as well get into practice so when I actually start working again I have no excuses - batch baking here I come :D
