online sizing guides

I am aware when you purchase online that you have a responsibility to try and get the correct size. However my question is I made my purchase based up the retailers own sizing chart, I know it says it is a guide only but you would expect some degree of accuracy, but in this case it blatantly mis-leading. My 10 year old son is 144cm high with a waist of 59cm. I therefore chose a size MB 26-28, it is a very tight fit on him and slightly to short. The problem arises that as it is a personalised football top the website says it will not refund or exchange in these circumstances. I feel aggrieved at this as I feel they should bear some of the responsibility. Any advice?

  • You would expect it to be short, as the sizing guide states a height of 140cm.

What size is the actual garment?
  • its small, i.e. a tight fit considering it says the MB 26-28 in the chart states it is for a boy with a waist of 66cm and my son is only 59cm I find that misleading.

I have given up on size charts in the main and go from experience if possible. But the main thing I do do is err on the big side, they will always grow in to them.

For a boy aged 10 I would be buying LB and possibly even XLB. My daughter is the same age and I have to buy adult sizes now in a lot of things.

In your example I would have bought the XLB for her and she does a lot of sport.

This year we ordered 50 skins for the club and the place selling them said they were true to size, another parent warned me and I suggested to most that they went up a size. Those that didn't regretted it.

My advice if in doubt always go a size up.
  • Yes a lesson learned but I still have the issue with he product I have now being to small, no refund no exchange but I based my choice on advice from their website.
  • Is the item actually smaller than the size guide measurements or is it just designed to be close fitting? A lot of sports wear is meant to be close fitting so if you want a loose fit you need to buy a size up.

If the item is smaller than the size guide then you could argue that it is not as described and reject the item using your rights under the Sale of Goods Act.
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!

This is what I was trying to get at. Measure the actual item and see how the size of the item compares to the size chart.
