How much do you spend at Xmas on kids?

I would not spend a penny on them now as it is still summer0

No one needs presents, but boy do I love them :rotfl:Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
Not nearly as much as the majority of the above posts  !
I don't think it's necessary to overspend madly just because it's the Retailer's Holiday. Kids really don't NEED that much.
I've known other people spend large amounts for Xmas and then pay for it for the entire following year.
Of course they don't NEED it - people don't NEED anything other than is stated in maslow's heirarchy of needs. No one should be pressured into spending more than they can afford, or more than they think they ought to. However, if you can afford it (and want to), then it is nice to be able to treat them to things that they wouldn't normally get.
Incidentally, the only thing my daughter asked for last year was "a real fairy". Oh, and she got a furby too because it was the only thing that she had asked for (3 days before Christmas!) that she actually had a chance of getting.
Oh, and the reason she gets what you perceive as "as much" is usually because most of it is bought on offer/sale and I can't resist it - this site COSTS me a fortune, never mind saves it! :rotfl:
I am the same with everyone that I buy for - if I see something that I know they would love, then they get it.0 -
Some years as much as £200 per child, some years less than £50. It all depends on what their 'main' present is and whether it's on special offer.
The teenagers had a new monitor each last year, but this year they don't need one, so the main present will be something cheap.
The youngster often hopes for something costing around the £30 mark for his main present, but I'd spend a lot more than that in the years when he has a new bike, for example. One year it might be a DS, the following year just a game for the DS.
EDIT: But every year I spend £2 each on a big chocolate coin for each stocking, it's what they get most excited about

I spend different amounts every year depending on what my children ask for, last year they both got iPads and some toys as well so worked out about £350 each.
This year I think it will be about £260 each with the things they have asked for and things I've already bought in.
I save all year for Christmas as it's my fav time of year and apart from birthdays my kids don't get a lot of toys throughout the year.0 -
We spend about £100 on each kid - 2 girls 16 and 13 and one boy 7 .
We try to cover all of these: Something they really want, something to read, something to wear, something homemade, something they have havent thought of themselves.
And a gift for all three of them to share. Some years we have spent a bit extra on a big thing like a wii or ipad, but usually some kind of game to play or tickets to go somewhere0 -
I only have one child, shes 1 this yr, I tend to spend £100/£150 on main presents, whether this is one bigger item or a mix, then £50 on odds and sods, such as smellies, ear-rings, socks, new pjs, pr of boots.
Previous big presents have been a 50/50 with the grandparents have included
laptop
blackberry tablet
ds ex
3d ds
I will budget throughout the year, for her presents.
- Congratulations on the impending miracle - xx
Sorry but you bought a laptop, blackberry ds and 3d ds for a one year old? Seriously0 -

My son is nearly 4, usually we spend around £200. Me and his dad are separated so we contribute £100 each towards "santa" presents. For birthdays we give £50 each. I rarely buy toys throughout the year so its not too bad. In late nov/ early dec I also have a clear out of his old toys for the charity shop.
This year he is getting a tablet as he did get the leap pad last year but its far too expensive buying apps etc when you can get free games/ apps on the normal tablets so overall it will save money (I hope) although I do admit I worry with that one present being expensive it will look like he has got very little? I'm sure hes far too young to think like that though.0 -

I suspect it's a typo and her daughter is in double figures as she does say hereAnother thing with Lo being so young, there not going to realise the value of gifts, - I spoilt my DD rotten for her 1st Christmas, - then by her 2nd Xmas, I cut it back as by then I figured I needed to get toys etc for summer months and items to grow with, so for a couple of yrs for her birthday / Xmas I got items like Next clothes as they were her "posh outfits", xx
Mine have depended on what the family finances were like at the time and have ranged from one year when husband took a pay cut and I couldn't find work when we bought eldest something for £20 and youngests present was bought with tesco clubcard coupons, to £100+ in more recent years. Most expensive so far was an experience, as DS went to a Minecon convention in France. That was costed up as £260 and more if we include hubbys cost of taking him, My kids do have extended family who buy for them with 4 grandparents, 2 great-grandparents, and 5 aunts/uncles/godparents with most getting more them more than 1 item to unwrap.0
