I just booked next years summer holiday

Sort of money saving... in some counties (for example Warwickshire) the schools don't go back until Monday the 7th September next year.
This is good because it means you can book a 2 week holiday last week of August and first week of September, September is substantially cheaper generally. most hot places will still be plenty hot.
I just booked the exact same package for next year as I just had this year (but this year it was all in August) and it was nearly £600 cheaper. Over the last few days places on this holiday for the later period have gone down rapidly (only 2 rooms left when I booked) showing a lot of parents have cottoned onto this and are booking cheaper.
If your county/school goes back earlier - sorry! even so many will be going back later days than this year so a mid week to mid week may be possible. Check on your council website for next years dates, all should have published by now.

check with your school too - my DDs school doesn't follow the LEA term dates faithfully.0

Good point. We are at two schools and sometimes they go back later because they add extra training days but never heard of any going back earlier than the published dates, apart from private schools.0

Every Academy and Free School is a "private school", even though they are state funded. They can all decide their own term dates irrespective of what the Local Authority advises.0

We've done the same.
Our school have confirmed 7th September return.
Puts a smile on my face to have next year's summer holiday sorted already!0 -

I suspect your right. That is why I booked now. (Even got £81 topcashback on Thomas Cook ). Last year I booked a lot later than this and there were quite a few places in the hotel left. This year although earlier there is only 1 room left as of this morning for the Aug/Sept dates.
People are obviously on the ball this year which is good, the holiday companies may have already missed the boat. :doh:0 -

The trouble is that by extending the school holiday season it reduces the weeks that those of use without school-age children can get cheap holidays.0 -

Good grief you have all of June, half of July and three quarters of September. How much more does one person need in high season ????? :rotfl:
(You DO realize that the total number of school days in a year haven't actually changed - don't you) My birthday is the 7th September and when I was at school we were usually back by then or it was the first day back (I actually started secondary school on my birthday) so it doesn't seem much has changed in the decades between
