I need some help for my son. He was reported to BA as working and his benefit was stopped. what he was doing was some odd jobs because I had been moaning about needing a new garden shed and as I am on incapacity benefit there was no chance I`d be able to buy one.
He was on incapacity benefit since being attacked with a crowbar during a road rage incident, fractured skull left him with mental problems. Hes had no money since february and I have had to give him and food to live on . This week he received a letter he was not get anything although his doctor has signed him off. They said it was because he missed ameeting with them but he had to take some of my valium for a meeting with the housing office. I dont know what to do I cashed in a small pension but that is gone. Help

How old is your son? Would he qualify for DLA due to his health problems?0

Hi, my son is 33, I don`t know if he would qualify, he is not able to handle stressful situations, he cannot even go on buses because of other people, he is virtually a prisoner in his flat, he`s no electricity because his supplier wanted to put in a key meter to reclaim money he is owing them but he is refusing to let them. He has a temper problem too, which is why he missed the meeting with the dss. He was reported by an ex friend who my son was going to beat up after he tried to rape a mutual friend.0

He should go to see a Welfare Rights Officer at the CAB, they will be able to tell him what he is entitled to and help him to claim it.
Unfortunately if he misses meetings without a good reason they will stop his money but CAB will be able to advise him on what to do next.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.

If his IB has been stopped, first of all ask for full written reasons.
Then you'll need to make an appeal, the time limit's quite tight, you have one calendar month from the date of the decision to lodge the appeal. You need to appeal on form GL24, available from your local Job Centre Plus. You'll probably need specialist advice on what to do.
If he was called for a meeting it could be the personal capability assessment, and if he didn't turn up his benefits would be stopped automatically. You can usually get them to consider that, but you'll need specialist advice too.
Get your son to give CLS Direct a call on 0845 345 4345; they can help you if the appeal goes to the tribunal, although they can't do representation.
If he has mental health issues he may also be entitled to DLA, if he finds it hard to interact socially with others, or can't do basic tasks alone, and he might want to consider looking into that.Build a man a fire and he will be warm for a day.
Set a man on fire and he will be warm for the rest of his life.
