DLA, do me a favour

Last October I was re assessed and was awarded middle rate care and lower rate mobility.

I really think that as things have improved with my mobility it is that I surrender this. Little has changed regarding my care award.

Today I called up to say that I felt it proper to stop my mobility payment.

The outcome. All the award will be suspended, that, of course is including the care element. I am told I may have to fill in a form before that is reinstated although they try to get it sorted in 12 weeks including back payments.

Wish I hadn`t bothered now. Well not really true but I do feel punished for being honest.

that's how the system works im afraid they will not just asses the mobility element but the care element as well they will base this on the information you put on the change of circumstances form that they will send you out its to stop any overpayment of the benefit.

if they feel you just need the care element they will award you this back with any monies owed just the way the system works and the 12 weeks in a guideline it may take longer or it could be done sooner deepens how busy they are

But then you would be claiming something you are not entitled to.

The system is far from perfect, but that is no excuse for fraud.

But according to statistics, there is next to fraud when it comes to DLA, maybe because there is no checks during award periods as to whether circumstances change for the best, and let's face it, as OP said, most would think it a silly thing to do in this situation.

Thats because fraud statistics are based on proven cases and with most disabilities it is hard to prove someone is not genuine or as bad as they make out.

Most DLA fraud cases are proven because the person has been filmed playing golf, running a marathon, weightlifting etc which doesn't match with what they have written on their forms.

In my case it is not a physical thing. I have a mental illness. Hospitalised for 10 and a half months at the age of 19. Really fought my way back, totally top parents that truly supported me. It has come back from time to time but a big breakdown 4 years ago.

I have a lovely wife who supports me. She needs to remind me of day to day things. I have OCD, the depression and anxiety is kept at bay by anti ds. My doc suggested help from the dla.

Left on my own I would forget to wash, take meds and so on. As a ( not very good Christian ) I want only what I am entitled to.

It wont kill us if the reward is taken from us, so be it.
