posting on behalf of my partner
as we are linked with joint bank account ,im aware if he applys for credit mines gets checked too ?
we both have credit cards each but my partner wants apply for 0% credit card ,he has no missed payements or defaults etc has great paying history etc ,mines is same bar 1 small default for £350 which is 5 yrs old ,would my default stop him geting credit?

It very much depends. Defaults are not good, but 5 years ago is better than last year.0

Overcome financial association? It's impossible.
That's why it's advised to think twice before getting any joint financial products.
Get rid of your joint account and and contact CRA(s) to have the association broken.
E.g. http://www.experian.co.uk/consumer/faq/AR3.html
That said, I am not sure that a 5 y.o. small default will stop your partner from getting a new card. IMO, it's worth trying.0
