Where could I get a spare key cut for my car?
Hi folks
I recently bought a 2nd key remote control fob for my car - its a Seat Ibiza 2011. I bought the key fob off ebay for around £10.
However, the key blade needs cutting in order to fit my car.
Apart from the dealer, could someone please advice, whereI could get that done from?
Thanks in advance for your responses.

You will also need the key fob coding to the immobiliser, and the remote coding to the remote locking.
Many locksmiths can cut replacement key blades, although they will often not cut internet-supplied blades as they will not want to be held liable for the crap quality of most of them.
Expect a trip to the local dealer for coding if you don't have the key codes supplied with the vehicle originally, although again, many dealers will not code a 2nd-hand fob and immobiliser chip.
There are ways to code the fob part to open and close the doors (Google for instructions), but the key won't start the car without pairing with the immobiliser.0 -
Timpson cut keys, the immobiliser may be another issue though.0

A local auto locksmith is usually the way to go if you don't want to pay dealer price.
I wanted a spare key for my Skoda (similar key to yours as they're both VAG cars). Skoda wanted £160 or something. I got it done by a local auto locksmith for £60 (he supplied the key, cut it and coded it to the immobiliser).
That was for a non-remote key though. A remote will be a bit more.
As BeenThroughItAll says, the immobiliser chip in the key will need to be coded to your car. This generally requires the locksmith to plug his laptop into the car. Additionally, if you get a remote key, it will need to be paired with your car separately, but that's a lot easier.
Timpson were over £100 when I asked.0 -

Good luck with this - I have tried to get a key on the cheap in the past and have always been disappointed.
I even had to give up on a Freelander key and just went to the dealer instead.
I wasted a load of time and travel to get it coded from a man in a shed and it was problematic.
I know that's not what you want to hear, and this is MSE, but some things just are the price they are.
At the moment you have spent only £10.
My advice is don't spend any more unless you get a money back guarantee that it will work.0
