When I took my bus driving test - examiner asked me how you should park a bus if on hill. Answer was leave in gear & turn wheel to kerb for both up/down sloping hills. That way if HB failed & they do more often in buses, it will roll into kerb. Most are air driven HBs & can fail as air leaks out of tanks over time. No they're not meant to do that, but many only get fixed when MOT coming up.0

The set up on this Passat I have, I park on my drive which is a slight slope, so handbrake is applied whilst foot is on the brake. When I release foot brake, some braking effort is released from the handbrake. Maybe there's adjusters playing up, or maybe it's a trade off for having the set up it does, I'm not 100% on this.
The old disc/drum set up like on old cavaliers seemed much more effective to me, adjusted correctly one click would have the wheels locked solid.0
