Bringing Back stuff from USA

Options
Hi

i'm travelling to the US in september with my family. It is my first time abroad for about ten years. My family seem to think you can only bring back $150 of stuff back from USA, Is this correct? I have tried searching on the internet. does anyone know where i can find further info on this.

yeah thats the rule or something like that anyway

realisticly you can bring back what you want, ive been at least 20 times and never been pulled up

remember if you've bought new shoes and worn them then they wont know and any clothes just yank the labels off and theyre used then

if you get any big ticket items like a laptop or camera , mail the reciept and manual home to yourself incase you get stopped...but really you will be fine unless you have a mountain of stuff

I once had my pushchair totally dismantled with screwdrivers at Sandford Airport! They must have suspected it was stashed with drugs! They did not touch the hundreds of pounds worth of stuff we had in our suitcases!!
I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes ;)

coming through uk customs two weeks ago I was in a John Deere cap and a t shirt and a pair of wrangler kakis. I looked like a redneck. That was my idea to go through as a us tourist. It worked no probs lol.

We have never had any problems and, because DW does her jewellery shopping abroad I would guess we are always well over the limit. To be honest I didn't even know the limit existed.

Although now you are aware there are limits,it will show in your face if you are questioned:p -and just because everyone else has done it and not been stopped doesn't mean you won't be the one that's picked on when you go,(thereby paying dearly for the excess and getting into trouble)

so take it easy and don't bring back enough to start your own shop,or too many duplicates (eg Heeleys for six kids when you only have two with you.)

I agree that when we buy jeans etc, they could have come from anywhere, so we wear them and stick them in with the dirty laundry case.
Shoes get worn before we fly too.;)

I guess I will just have to make DW wear her jewellery and discard the receipts

  • I don't wish to be the kiljoy here, but what people are discussing is illegal

The Customs limit hasn't changed significantly for years but is under review - some thought changes would be in place by Summer 07. Until then, it's £145 each, end of story.

By importing cheap products we're reducing domestic sales thereby putting increasing pressure on our local industries. So prices go up to cover the costs and eventually UK companies go out of business.
