How to get a refund for a faulty product from Sports Direct?

I know, it's not new at all, but I need an advice.
On 18 Aug I bought Oasis Shorts from SportsDirect shop in Kingston upon Thames and took them with me on holiday.
The second time I put them on and sat down, they broke apart in several places.
I believe it is because of very thin material used.
On arrival from my holiday (11 Sep) I went to the shop and asked for a refund.
A member of staff refused to do so, saying it was my fault, "it must had been caught in something, or you bought wrong size". I asked to speak to a duty manager, and that another guy told me the same.
They didn't even mentioned inspection - "we are trained for customer service".
The only option they offered was to fill in a form to Customer Service Department and post it or go to their web site and use Contact Us facility.
I completed a Contact form on their website, but from my previous experience they might not respond to my query at all.
What are my options if they won't come back to me within say next 5 working days?
It's not a question of money (£4.50), but I hate the way they treat their customers. And if it won't cost me a fortune, I'm ready to make their life a bit harder.
And yes, I am trying to avoid buying anything from Sports Direct.

You wont be making their life any harder, they simply don't care what you do.
If you have had previous experience with them, why bother shopping there?
For £4.50 do you really care that much, see what they say in their reply and move on, it's not worth your time.0 -
£4.50 shorts are only £4.50 for a reason.0

I would consider it £4.50 well spent to learn never to shop in Sports Direct.0

when my son was little he was desperate for flashing trainers.
So I purchased a pair for him. Within in 48 hours they stopped flashing.
I returned them for a replacement/refund, no more in his size, so I requested a refund. Was told no as the trainers werez fit for purchase, which I suppose technically they was. But I had purchased them as they flashed.
Shop assistant refused to help so I requested a manager, He initially refused to help, but I also refused to budge. He agreed to call someone? head office? about it to see if they could help.
And could I stand to one side so the assistant could continue serving other customers. I responded with no thank you I am fine here. And stood firm.
Funny enough the phone call took all of 30 seconds and I got my refund.
Not my finest hour I fully admit, and this was in the days before I'd found the internet and how awful Sports direct were at refunds etc.0 -
£4.50 is a cheap lesson learnt - don't buy from Sports direct. I did when I brought walking shoes from them that slip on concrete.Do you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring0
