I have a Amex reward standard card not the gold one. I have used it for a few years now as I can cash in 10,000 points for £50 amazon voucher which is useful.
However, have just looked as getting close again to redeem and it appears all mention of Amazon has vanished from the rewards site. It appears they revamped the rewards website a couple of months ago so maybe they have quietly dropped the no doubt most popular redemption option.
Now the only one that is slightly useful is M&S but would struggle to spend £50 there quickly to be honest. The rest seem far less useful and really not worth the loyalty spend.
Anyone else noticed this or am I missing something. Perhaps Amazon reward is now only available on the Gold reward card which has an annual fee of £125.

10,000 MR points to get £50 values the MR points at 0.5p each which is a terrible reward rate. Why not get a cashback card where you'd be getting more return for your spending if you dont want to use the MRs for travel?
Amazon isnt showing at the moment, they do occasionally "sell out" and stop advertising certain promos for a while. There is the American Express Gift Card which is 11,000 for £50 value and that can be spent anywhere that accepts AmEx but if you dont spend it quickly there is a monthly fee deducted from its balance.0 -
Thanks for reply. Maybe they just sold out then.
With the reward card you get 3 points for supermarkets including petrol and so appears to build up more quickly. For me it must be more like 1% as the bulk of the points come from these bonus food and petrol but yes on the rest the return as your point out is nothing special. Never really thought about it before in those terms so thanks. Will check out cashback alternatives.InsideInsurance wrote: »10,000 MR points to get £50 values the MR points at 0.5p each which is a terrible reward rate. Have the Amazon vouchers reappeared on the Rewards site yet?
I have been looking into this further and trying to work out if this is still the best card for me.
The Amazon vouchers appear to have been removed from the rewards program permanently which devalues the card for me as they are really as good as cash.
However, I did some analysis and because this reward card gives 3 points for each £1 spent at supermarkets including their petrol sites then overall this equates to 1.5% return to me based on actual spend. The newer gold reward card only pays 2 points at supermarkets so is slightly lower value rewards to the original standard card which i think has been withdrawn.
There doesn't appear to be any card that can touch this level of rewards permanently but now you have to accept m&s or boots or house of fraser vouchers which is not useful to me although can use for christmas presents.
I generally receive about 4 lots of £50 a year because i spend a lot on petrol so this card still appears to be the best for me at the moment. But watching it closely and slightly annoyed that the rewards program was revamped and devalued.0 -
Amazon vouchers are back on the Membership Rewards as of last night (14th).
Hurry, there are all denominations available at present.0 -
