Router to replace BT home hub 3.

Good morning all,
Forgive me if this has been covered, but I am looking for some advice on a subject I know nothing about. Even the idiot guides confuse me.
I am looking to install a Nest thermostat in my house. That part is fine, but it says it will not work with the BT home hub 3 so I need another router.
Can anyone suggest a good router which I can just swap with the BT one? I have been reading guides and there is so much jargon I am baffled. I dont have fibre internet or anything like that, it just comes through the phone line.
We use the internet for games and movies and browsing, it is fast enough for that. I just need to know which router can be unboxed, plugged in and away we go which will be as good, or better than the hub 3 which we have had no issues with.
Thanks very much and I am sorry if this is vague. If you need more information please let me know!
Luke.

Does it say why it won't work?
It's just that on their forum they seem to say it will

It doesnt say why it wont work, just on this link -

It says the home hub 3 doesnt work. But from your link it looks like it does, thank you!
Best bet is just to give it a shot and get another router after if it doesnt work.0 -
If you have bt infinity and a seperate openreach modem then you will need a cable router. If its a adsl line then its an adsl modem router which you will need.
For value for money go with TP Link. Amazon stock these and are very reliable with a 3 year warranty, if you wanted the dogs then look at an ASUS.Kind Regards,

The simple solution is (as stated on that link) is to ask BT for a newer router. If you are out of minimum term then you should be able to blag one FOC. If not, there are loads of newer HomeHubs on ebay. (versions 4 or 5).No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thanks for all the help guys. Its things like ADSL and WAN ethernet which I have no idea about. I think I will see how it goes with the hub 3 I have, and failing that I will get another BT home hub on ebay. As far as I know they are 'plug and play' kind of things. Technology these days baffles me and I am only 30.0

You can also buy a new BT Home Hub5 at a special discounted price compared to RRP. It's quick and easy to order online.
BT Infinity customers can get a Hub 5 for £69, plus £6.95 delivery.0 -
Look on eBay for later BT Home Hubs. There are loads.0
