Just look at DDR2 RAM, now DDR3 is coming in (but now would be a bad time to switch)
Sorry didn't understand the above. What is DDR3 and is this a bad time to change in general pre DDR3 or a bad time to change to DDR3.0 -
DDR3 is the new kind of ram - only works on intel's latest motherboards. To add to the confusion they have release DDR2 versions and DDR3 versions of the P35 motherboard (think it applies to the G35 boards too, not sure). Although a few motherboard makers have release boards which support both - different dimm slots, so this just a temporary measure.
It is a bad time to switch to DDR3. This is because it has stupidly high latencies but operates at higher speeds. Right now, the high end DDR2 ram will outperform DDR3 ram because it has not yet matured as a technology. The same thing happened when DDR2 first appeared, maybe in 3 months or so DDR3 will start to reach its potential and be worth having.Faith is believing what you know ain't so...0
