Was that the take away prices? They probably charge more to eat in. But as above, did you not query it at the time?
  • Nah, I will just vote with my feet. I only went there because I was craving chippie chips. If I had known it would be 4.30 I would have thrown in a quid more and got cod and chips.

Too many small businesses do this, when business isn't doing do well they hike prices and further add to their slowing business. This fish and chip shop used to be quite bustling before but founder passed away and new owners came in and took the pass. They started serving tiny battered cod - the cod was half the Length of the batter. Don't know how they managed to do that. Maybe they rebattered and fried a cooked cod. I stopped going since then, I popped in today thinking a saveloy should be cheap, just wanted chips to be honest. What a !!!!take

Why didn't you just question it?! Either you made a mistake or they did.

It was probably an artisan saveloy.

Im amazed that you can get chips for a pound in any area of London. They are more expensive than that up North. I doubt if theres a cafe anywhere in the country where you can get a drink for 60p.

Sure you weren't looking at the kids menu!
  • I had a similar situation at a place in Lincoln not too long ago. Ordered two different pies (hey, I only have a pie or two a year, leave me alone! :D) for about £1.50 each, and was going to ask for two chips (~£1) to go with them when the guy asked "Would you like those with chips?" - how fortuitous, yes please. And a couple of cans.

After finishing our food, we got a bill for ~£12. I was... intrigued. I went to query the bill, and apparently instead of ordering a pie and a chips for ~£2.50, I'd ordered a pie with chips for ~£5 - which came with gravy, y'see? (Bisto Original, I think)

I'd barely begun to point to the menu when he must have seen the steam gushing from my ears and immediately relented.

Maybe you were lucky enough to stumble across one of these meal "deals" as well?
