Can I claim this back from the housing

Keeping
I am due to move into my new flat next month but the landlord only agreed on 6 months rent in advance which I can pay but it will be my own personal money which I keep for things like furniture, clothes etc so if I bring proof to the housing office that I had to pay 6 months rent in advance, will they reimburse me those 6 months?

Not in a single lump sum (if that's what you are asking).
If you have an entitlement to HB it will be paid in arrears in a 4 weekly? cycle and this will take place even if you paid for it out of your own savings up front.
Note that capital over 6k reduces means tested benefits while capital over 16k rules it out.0 -

Thanks and I wished I had £6k in savings lol. I just spoke to the housing office and they told me they will pay me housing benefit like normal so I will essentially get the 6 months rent paid in arrears like you said but it won't be in one lump sum which is kind of annoying as I wanted to use some of the money I had saved for furniture.
Nevermind but thanks for taking the time to reply.0 -
For free furniture in the meantime, don't forget websites like freecycle, freegle, trashnothing and Gumtree freebies, plus cheap stuff from charity shops.0
