Refused a New Boiler

Options
Hi All,

A Close friend of mine - qualified for a new boiler and it all went through. The day before it was due to be fitted an inspector came out and put a stop to it, saying the old boiler was OK.

The company who were going to fit it were annoyed as they had all the parts and boiler ready to go.

However the old boiler is very old, not energy efficient and keeps going out.

She has a young toddler and a baby, and is now worrying about the winter.

Does she have any way of appealing this decision?

  • Something is missing here....

Is this a council house or a tenant or something? How can anyone stop a person from making a private decision to upgrade something? Is your friend paying for the new boiler?

How old is the existing boiler? Can it not be repaired?

    Some important information is missing....

I would love a free new boiler, but have never managed it.

Poor is not enough, you have to be poor in the right way.

Band F, but not Band G: sorry, no boiler scrappage.

Your car is 9 years old? Shame, ten year olds get the £2,000 car scrappage.

The boiler is not free. The charges are added on to gas and electricity bills, so the rest of us have to pay for it.
  • The OP has not yet replied with specifics, so rather than jumping to conclusions I would think it better to wait for more information.
  • Sorry I lost where I put this thread.

I am going to ask her the exact specifics and get back to you though...
  • I do know she is a tenant and she qualified for the boiler on the free boiler government scheme.
  • I too would love to have a new boiler.

Could you please tell me where I could sign up ?
  • I had a bunny boiler after me a couple of years back, can I free another?

This is not true, these installations are paid for by the biggest 9 energy companies so if you are not one of their customers you don't pay into the pot thus making smaller companies more competitive and creating competition
