Lost Endowment Policy - Cost of Certification?

I have received notice from Guardian Financial Services that my Mortgage Endowment policy is maturing next month. I need to complete a form and send the original policy document back to them.

25 years has passed and I can no longer find the policy document. Therefore GFS have asked that I provided a certified declaration observed by a Notary Public/Commissioner of Oaths before they will accept my claim form.

Can anybody advise how much I should expect to pay for the declaration service from an NP/CoO please as I don't have a regular solicitor I use and so will be ringing around to find one.
For clarity I am in North West England - just in case there are significant regional rate variations.

Many thanks.

Just a thought - is there any chance that you had to deposit the original policy with the mortgagee?
  • Yes I thought too and got in touch with them but they insist they only inspect the document and then return as they don't have the facilities to securely store the originals.

Dont know about a Certified Declaration but I once had to have an Oath Comissioned which I guess is a similar thing. I just went into a local high street solicitor, it took a few minutes at a cost of about £5.

    Who is the lender?

Is the mortgage account still open?

If not, where are the title deeds?

Have you tried the lawyer who dealt with the purchase. It may be held by him.
  • Who is the lender?
Was ING Direct but Barclays has now transferred their business.

Is the mortgage account still open?
    Yes it's still open.

If not, where are the title deeds?
As open I assume with Barclays.
