Travel Insurance Query

Hi,
I have annual family travel insurance from a well known firm beginning with V.
I am due to go on holiday on Friday.
My wife became ill earlier this week culminating in being admitted to hospital yesterday and she is still in just now. It is expected that she will be able to come home tomorrow (best case scenario).
I am waiting until tomorrow morning to see how she is but I'm thinking that I will decide tomorrow morning to cancel the holiday if she is still not 100% and claim from my travel insurance. I would imagine that the hospital will give her an "it's up to you" steer on whether to go on holiday however.
I have never claimed from travel insurance before and am wary of the slightly eccentric world of general insurance (evidenced by some of the dodgy answers I've given in this forum) and would appreciate any general tips or precautions that anyone would suggest.
Many thanks in advance,
T

Have a read of your Cancellation section of cover. Cancelling due to illness is usually covered but disinclination to travel is not. You really want a medical opinion.
Will her GP give advice on whether or not to travel?0 -
Unless she is advised not to travel by a doctor then you won't be able to claim any cancellation costs from your insurer.0

Thanks for the replies.
You can possibly see my problem. At best, she will get out of hospital 20 hours before having to fly.
I will speak with the doctor tomorrow.0
