Mobile or credit card to improve credit report? Or neither?

Or maybe there's no difference if both paid on time?

My mobile contract runs out in December, when it does they only financial accounts I will have on my credit file will be 1 credit card and 3 bank accounts.

I was thinking of then applying for a sim only 1 year contract or another cc to give me "more green dots" but I will have saved my deposit by August and hope to start applying for a mortgage then. So is it best not to apply for either in january as both accounts will still be "young" in August?

A credit card used correctly can be a good free way of building up a positive credit history.

But as you mention this being another credit card then if you already have an open card account there is probably little benefit in term of building a credit history of having a second one.

I would ideally try not to open any new credit accounts in the 6month run up to applying for a mortgage.
