A little help please.

I bought acar battery late last year earlier this year, around May time the batteryfailed. The dealer said the battery wasfaulty. I contacted Batterymegastore.co.ukwho eventually delivered a new one and collected the old one.

All wasfine until last month when the car wouldn’t start, called the RAC, they told methe battery was faulty, and had failed. Also that it was the wrong type for my car (selected by typing inregistration on batterymegastore.co.uk site).

Since thenI bought a battery from Honda, and have been having a constant battle withbatterymegastore to get a refund. Thebest they offer is that I PAY £20 for them to collect it and test. I’m stuck as I have provided the RAC reportthat staes the battery failed and that it’s not powerful enough for my car.

What can Ido about this please?

If you have provided a independent report that states battery incorrect/faulty not powerfull enough for the vehicle, then they should refund you. a test their end is not going to prove any different.

Thanks. Thing that riles me is they keep ignoring me them I sent the report via email a week ago and they ignore me and I finally get this today:

We have been over this many times now. The test report that has been provided by RAC is not clear. We DO NOT issue any refunds under warranty. You can pay the £20 deposit for us to collect the battery and test it in our warehouse. This has been going on for over 1 month now.
  • Can't agree, they sell very high quality batteries at very good prices.

For two batteries to fail so quickly there is something else wrong.

I disagree. They have sold me a battery that's not powerful enough plus it has developed a fault.

The RAC tested the alternator and other electrics and they all came back fine.

Why should I have to pay a £20 deposit so that they can test it when the RAC report shows it has failed?

The RAC also sell car batteries......

There have been reports of them telling people their batteries are the wrong type and then selling them another one at double the going RRP, only for them to fail a few days later.

On the other hand you have a dealer who won't admit the car is faulty.

RAC want £120 for a battery for my car, I bought a Varta (arguably the best quality) for about £65 on line.

    Check here:
    http://www.racshop.co.uk/parts-maintenance/car-battery.html
See if the one they recommend is the same spec as the one you purchased.....
It's not easy though, they hide the AH capacity in a technical datasheet.

The only way to test a battery, is a full "drop" test (ie checking the voltage when it's applying a current of around 90amps to either the starter motor or a high power resistive load).

It take one of two things to kill a battery, LOTS of short journeys or low mileage use and leaving the battery in a discharged (fully or partially) for any length of time.
A car battery has a shelf life of around 6 months before it needs top up charging, most dealers will employ a stock system that keeps track of what they need to charge and when.

So unless some idiot stopped them monitoring their stock properly, then the chances of a faulty battery being supplied twice is extremely slim.

    Blah blah blah

Seems although you're a 'manger' (thought that was where the little baby Jesus was laid down?) your reading skills aren't great (or your writing skills judging by the emails to the OP and the content of your post). Seriously?

Attacking a persons spelling and grammar is just self defeating and desperate.

He does need permission to post and that's all you needed to say.

These days, management is about gab and a degree in something useless (like media studies). Where does spelling or grammar come into that?

It seems to me that they are being very reasonable. Far more so than those picking up the odd typo.

On a general point, if I were in business I'm not sure I would like to see my reputation being trashed by potentially gormless customers, without a right of reply.

^^ I think OP is putting too much trust into the dealership and the RAC, both of whom have a vested interest it telling them it's the battery at fault.

The supplier has only one interest, that's in selling a quality product that won't cause the customer to run around bad mouthing them. Provided nobody is using the company to gain a short term career boost, before leaving them in ruins after a couple of years and moving on to do the same at their next company (which is shockingly common these days).
