I have to say I am not a very good old styler - yet. Have been very busy with selling business and suchlike. Come the third week of this month I am going to sit down and spend some time organising everything and figuring out my way forward with all this.
Although I have to say I HATE the smell of vinegar (unless it has beetroot in it), but all the talk of how fab it is means I am willing to try it - once I get myself sorted!0 -
Adding a spot of lemon juice and maybe a drop or two of essential oils of your choice seem to be highly recommended

If the whiff gets too much, use lemon juice. Before becoming an ole styler, I used to think that i was spending the minimum amount of money I could for a family of six in the supermarket.ie Average £100.00 oer week. Joints of meat were for one meal only, the remains doing their statutory 3 day sentence in the fridge before 'dead meat walking' and heading for the bin. I bought far too many ready made cakes biscuits and breads beleiving that I did not have the time to make my own and anyhow 'they work out cheaper if you by them ready made'.
Now I spend half the amount I did spend (much eating of humble pie to working husband who used to roll is eyes at the bill at checkout) and today we had rubber shoulder of lamb stew, (in the slow cooker of course) with herb dumplings and homemade bread. The shoulder of lamb was from a sunday lunch,n=made into a stew and frozen.
so I eat humble pie most days and marvel at some things that are done on here, and vow to try most new ideas I see. Before this we were constantly skint, and in constant denial of how much we were really spending.0 -
As a 5 foot one inch, 8 stone female I always assumed I was too delicate to do 'heavy' jobs. But it's amazing what a person can achieve with a bit of effort and positive thinking, there's not a lot that beats me these days. During the war years there was no 'paying a man' to do the heavy things, the women folk just got on and did it and there's no reason why a fit, healthy and young at heart woman (that's me
) can't do the same today
Use words that are soft and sweet in case you have to eat them.0 -
As a meat eater I swore for years a meal just had to have red meat in it. Now between fish, chicken, turkey and Aduki bean/lentil stew I only eat red meat (including sliced ham and the like) about 4 times a week. And these are all cheaper options as well as healthier.
I also swore I'd only ever eat white bread. Last year whilst dieting/healthy eating I switched to wholemeal bread but now I've cut out bread almost entirely (only 4 slices last week).
Worse of all. I once said 'only old people with no teeth eat bran for breakfast'.
Guess what I had this morning...

I haven't embraced the Old Style culture as much as I was hoping, however I have surprised myself with some of the things I have incorporated, eg:
water down liquid soap - only ever buy it BOGOF, now I get 4 bottles for the price of 1!
shop in Lidl on a regular basis - though that's not really old style, but definitely an improvement on my old shopping habits
use the cheapest of all washing powders, and use a fraction of what the box says...and still have clean clothes
use vinegar for some things, now swear by it in the final clothes rinse. I doubt if I will ever return to fabric conditioner. Also use it for my windows.
bought a slow cooker. I even use it sometimes...not as much as I should or could as I'm still too disorganised, but getting there
I buy very little out of Sainsbury's at full price, taking full advantage of their dented cans, nearly out of date meat etc etc - before I was just too self-concious to have a good rummage around the reduced shelves but I don't care any more!
Joined the local library - it's free...what a lovely word, I am going to say it again...FREE..mmmm lovely!!!0
