dont know who gas supplier is

I moved into my new home almost 3 years ago, I have never had a gas bill, electricity was with scottish power. I changed over after about 8 months to sainsburys and told them i had never received a gas bill. They took the serial number on my meter and said they would find out and i could start paying for gas, they didnt. I have contacted them on a number of ocassions and still no gas bill!!!
I dont know what else to do i dont want to be landed with a huge bill at some point .
