Is it a bit silly to replace Kitchen Unit doors (oak) with b and q type manufactored?

I mentioned this on another thread, my ex sprayed our oak doors in a 'modern' colour and they look great and cost very little - however, took a lot of time and patience to do properly and you'll need somewhere with ventilation for spraying.

I'm now actually considering changing the units for modern ones from ikea or b&q simply because the units themselves are very high quality but showing their age now and not white, but the kitchen itself looks pretty good.

They are out of fashion now - but give it a few years and they might come back in.

If they really are solid oak, is it possible to strip them and redo in a lighter finish?

I was going to suggest this. I did not go down this route because when a kitchen is renewed, those with the expert eye, (who are not usually male), often picture a different layout! Hence the original doors magically become obsolete!
  • I'd love solid oak doors in my kitchen, although I'd most likely paint them a light colour and replace the handles and worktop maybe...

Why do MSE persist in deleting threads without leaving a hole so we can at least see something has been removed and not just think "what the hell is JTW on about":mad:
