Viscount Environmental - Funding for External Insulation

Hiya all, we were in process of buying our council house whilst the original scheme for improvement/energy works was running, then once we had completed it changed to the cashback scheme but just as we were waiting for our EPC the scheme closed (as you know) so we missed out both times.

However I've just had a lady round from Viscount Environmental - apparently they have been allocated funding from Npower to do works such as the external insulation. It provides (I think she said) about £4k for it and then the rest is paid back either by personal loan or energy bill deduction but this is decided when we have the EPC survey (which is free and no obligation).

She said it's different to the green deal scheme and they are the only company up North to been given the funding although there are 2 others down South.

I've given my phone number to arrange an EPC survey but I'm really confused as I can't find anything on the almighty google about it and from my understanding everything was pulled funding wise.

If anyone has any info either on the scheme or the company etc any help would be gladly received as I am gutted we have already missed out twice but equally don't want to get into something I don't understand or is dodgy!

Thanks in advance.

Everything will be ok in the end, and if it isn't ok then it isn't the end :)

  • I am guessing it is ECO, as that is the only scheme still running/accepting applications and has never stopped, it is just paying lower rates than before.

    Other options are:

GDHIF may open up again some time before Feb, but this will be £4000 cashback when it does open (which it will eventually).

ECO2 is starting March next year, which may/hopefully will pay better rates than ECO1 is currently paying.

I would recommend getting the EPC done, that way you can find out how much ECO is paying today for you house. If its less that £4k prob wait. If its more, you can gamble on waiting for ECO2 next year as this pay pay more.

I run a company similar to viscount, and our advice is to wait for ECO2.

Also, if you have the EPC done and decide not to go ahead with this company. It may be a good idea to buy the XML file, as this way you can send the EPC and XML to other companies to see what deals they have with ECO.
