Need Advice

Hello all. I'm a long time lurker first time poster.
I need some advice and hopefully someone can help me. Sorry for the long post.
I am looking at trying to get a new car on finance but so far I have hit a few walls and am not sure what I can do next?
My current situation is, I have 2 Credit cards which are being paid off under an agreement (£1220 @£56pm & £800 @£40pm). 1 store card which I am paying off (£450 @£30 per month) and my Mortgage, other than that I have no debt.
To cut a long story short, when my Son was born both me and my partner got into financial difficulty she was made redundant and we fell behind on paying some of our bills of which we defaulted on 2 accounts. Agreements were set up to pay the debts as above. This was over 3 years ago now and Im still feeling the effects.
I check my credit file regularly and since the defaults I have had no miss payments / negatives against me. We have really managed to get back on top of our debts.
So I applied for a new car back in Mar14, I was turned down. After speaking to the relevant finance company they said that the "Agreement to pay" was having a negative affect and also that one of my default was dated Sept and once it was past the 3 years this should be OK????
This weekend I went to try and apply for a new Sofa on finance. Yet again this was also rejected.
Im now thinking what do I need to do other than to pay off everything in full first before even attempting to try for finance?? Hopefully someone can advise??

Sorry I don't mean to be harsh but its comes down to you having to keep making payments on time and letting some further time pass. Or you start using high cost credit options which is not advisable or you save up for the things you want. You have been turned down twice, the more you apply now the more rejections you will get.0
