If you use emergency credit the meter will make the credit last as long as possible - it wont take the 12p, but will remember that it is due and take all the missed payments when you next top up.

How long can you use emergency credit? For example after a week or two, will the emergency credit stop?

Yes they have. When the benefit cap came in our housing benefit was reduced greatly, and this last year the landlord put the rent up a huge amount.

Is not the benefit cap £26,000 a year?

Screen "H"is quite an important screen for new occupiers . when its not a 2 rate eco 7 hi/low, screen "H" or rate 1 is the total kwhrs used for a new occupier on a meter which has had several occupiers. Its a good screen to see what a new occupier has used since they moved in with a new card. Its the screen we use mostly now when we read electric prepays. If the original occupier has been in from the install of the meter, "G" and "H" should read the same kwhrs.

it is £26000 a year but ids said last night that it will be reducing to £23000. I went through £40 this week as they are taking a £13 debt of my electric its a joke. Reckon in the winter ill be putting 40 on leccy and 30 on gas.

It is a good question, the truth is they will never cut you off. You can stay on emergency for a long time but I do not know what will happen in the end. They may send bailiff round to take possessions? Someone could clarify how long you can stay on emergency power? What happens after a long time?

Yes. Irritating that people on benefits are complaining it is dropping to £23k a year, yet I live on much much less - and not through choice.

My electricity & gas are both in credit too - but I have no ice creams in my freezer.

another one been brain washed by the tories.

Like for like you do not live on much much less, as if you did you would get benefits too.

A single person does not get £26,000.

If you can't afford your rent, you are entilted to housing benefit too, just like the person on benefits, and remember more people claim benefits that work but are on low wages than the number on unemployment benefits, only 5 billion out over200 billion goes on the unemployed, yet the tories give over 12 billion away each year it aid, so sorry if I think the unemployed are being used a scape goats here.

You are wrong on two counts.

Before I became disabled I was on a good wage and saved money for any eventual rainy day. As it turns out, the rainy day turned into monsoon season and I am currently unable to work. Because I have more than, whatever the threashold is, in savings I get no help with the cost of living, other than the £70 a week ESA payment (£3,640 a year). That is, in effect, my income.

Despite a long and tiring battle I have still not managed to claim disability payments as, despite the fact I am virtually housebound and spend 2 or 3 days a week drugged up and sleeping, I am not disabled enough!

I am not entitled to Council Tax benefits (due to savings) so still pay £105 a month to the local council, which is a third of my "income" and I do not have a mortgage or pay rent.

More fool me for not !!!!ing it up the wall when I was working, because if I had, the state would be looking after me now. As it stands, they've got their hand in my pockets until I practically run out of money and then I may get some additional help.

Lesson learnt. In my next life. Don't work so hard that you burn out and become chronically ill and have some nice holidays rather than save!

You can use it until it runs out, which isn't very long.
It is usually around £5 (I think it may vary in some more remote regions).
It would not be the company cutting you off, it would be you not buying any electricity.
If you stopped using electricity then they may choose to start other debt recovery procedures.

Did you look at the screens to see how much the meter is recovering?
