Adding myself to Daughters Car Insurance

Daughter is looking to buy first car, passed test over 2 years ago, this will be her first car and first car she has driven since passing test except for a refresher lesson and a couple of test drives. She has never been on either mine or father's car insurance as named driver, and never driven my car. She is looking at buying a car approx 8-10 years old, fiesta or similar. Daughter lives on her own, not with myself or her father so different households.
She is looking to add myself and possibly her father onto her car insurance as named drivers to try and bring the insurance price down. The insurance is approx £1,2800 on her own and this reduces it by another £100-£200.
I probably wouldnt drive the car, or certainly not often as I have my own car, but it gives me the option to drive it if need be.
My concern is how it would affect my insurance, I assume I would have to declare as currently my insurance is due by the end of the month and how it would affect my insurance if she had an accident. I currently have over 9 years protected no claims bonus and my last claim was over 5 years ago (not my fault).
I just wanted to know how it would affect me before I say she can add me as named driver.

You "probably" should declare that you have occasional access to another vehicle but this rarely impacts your insurance and if anything its likely to lower it than raise it.
If she has an accident in her car and claims on her insurance this doesnt impact you in any shape or form.
You just need to ensure she is kept up to date of any claims, driving convictions etc you/ her father makes so that she can keep her insurers updated in the future.0 -

You should advise your own Car Insurers that you would have access to another car and if you had an accident while driving, you would have to also tell your own Insurers. It will then be included as part of your driving experience of having an accident, which will affect your premium, although not your no claims discount. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -
Just to add when you note yourself on her policy make sure the mileage you declare you will do is realistic don't put a 5000/5000 split as that would be a false representation if you would only do around 500 over the year if you are lucky.0

well if they ask for a annual mileage some ask the split of the drivers.
Most brokers will ask but online markets may not.0 -
Fair enough. I do ours online, which may explain why they don't ask.
Or maybe they don't ask in our case because my wife and I are of a similar age and so wouldn't make much difference.0 -
Thanks for all the responses.
I have now contacted my current insurer and was told it will only affect me/my insurance if I have either an accident or commit an offence whilst in her car, any accidents/offences she commits only affect her insurance. The quote is the same price whether I am on her policy or not. Also managed to get my renewal quote reduced by £80 - in line to the comparisons I had received so farAlso got the automatic renewal cancelled just in case I decide to move insurer.
