Just been made redundant+new credit card

I left work (was made redundant) about 3 weeks ago. It's just occurred to me that a new credit card might be useful "just in case". I have a Barclaycard with about £300 debt which is interest free until December. After that it shoots up to around 20%. I tried out the MSE credit checker tool and found nearly 20 out of 21 card companies were unlikely to offer me a card. I've always had an excellent credit history and in the past card companies were constantly offering me new cards. As I'm now unemployed with no income apart from JSA, does this mean I'm in effect "untouchable"?

Pretty much as you're chances of paying it back are alot slimmer than those employed.
