debt letter from pastdue

Options
hi

my wife got a debt letter at our new address which we have lived in for approx. 9 months saying that she owed £106.59p for sky at our old address.
I remember that when we changed over from sky to virgin a month later we had a sky representative ring us up saying we still owed the above amount to which I replied the balance was paid in full when we left, he replied that they hadn't cancelled our subscription and we owed the money for another month.
I stated that we were no longer with sky but virgin and it was their fault that the subscription was not cancelled, and so I heard nothing again.
that was in march 2005, we now have pastdue collection agency trying to get the the money (which we don't owe) yesterday september 2014.

could I pursue a claim of harassment from sky as it was their fault and not ours as my wife gets stressed at these letters and worries.

many thanks

Ian.

Wrong board for this question as this is the redundancy board. However, one letter would not be construed as harrassment so you've no chance on that one at the moment.

Also, if you had not admitted the debt since 2005 then it would be statute barred so there is no way they can enforce it.

What is likely to have happened is that Sky sold the debt for a nominal amount to this debt company and they now are trying their luck.

There are letters you can write to tell them to stop calling but I would suggest you put this post on the debt free wannabes board where they can give more advice.
