Car tyres

I need some help and advice here please! :-)

I recently had to have 4 new tyres on my car - Audi A6 Quattro

I decided against going for full budget tyres, and went for middle of the range brand kumho - because of the size they were far from cheap.

I had them fitted by a local tyre shop, but ever since they have been fitted ive had vibrations through the car.

Ive been back now 3 times for them to try swapping wheels around and re-balancing etc.. but its still not really any better.

Im now at a loss for what to do!

My car used to ride smooth as anything and now it feels like my wheels are egg shaped, but i have no confidence the tyre shop is going to be able to fix this problem, despite it being related to the tyres they have sold me.

I guess its either a problem with balancing that their relatively cheap balancing equipment cant solve, or a tyre that is out of shape.

The guy in the tyre shop has been mostly ok, but I can tell he is getting frustrated as I beat him up about the price in the first place and its cost him a load in re-balancing already!

Should I just cut my losses and go to a better tyre shop with some of the top line equipment, or have I any redress against the manufacturor directly?

Any help or advise would be much appreciated!

Thanks

Cut your losses and go to a better tyre shop.

They obviously have no idea how to balance the tyres / use the equipment.

    Avoid Kwik-Fit/Halfords/National tyres.

Find a small independent you can trust (presonal recommendation).

Yup. Spend the money on someone who will take the time to do the job properly.

it could be a balance problem or it could be a tyre problem, if it is not balance then it could be what they call radial run-out that is causing the vibration

go to a better tyre shop , if you can find a place that has a hunter road force tyre machine then that is a very good balance system and would show any problem with the tyre

  • Thanks for the replies so far - I was thinking of trying a road force system actually, so that might be the best way to sort it out.

    Cheers!

kumbo is a very good tyre ,would be odd if all 4 tyres were faulty, sounds like they cant balance the wheels

Have had anything done to the wheels at all? Powder coating, for example.
