moving ceiling light fitting quote

Hi all
We're in the process of decorating our sons room, which currently has two ceiling light fittings in random positions. So. We want to shu them both down andhave a new one placed in the centre of the room. The ceiling is being plastered so work is getting done before and after this.
We've just had our first quote (east mids) of £250 ex vat

How does that sound?

Thanks in advance
Steve

    Does that include the plastering?!

It's a bit awkward trying to get people out for a small job, but someone very local should sensibly be able to do it for £100 around their other work and still be worth their while. £250 is more than a full day's work for our electrician.

I'd look for more work for guy to get better value from them.

    Doozergirl is right.

250 is way too excessive for what is really 2 or 3 hours work plus no more than £10 of materials. £80 to £100 is about right.

If the £250 includes plastering, then the whole job is decent price.

  • I agree with phill99 & Doozergirl - assuming we're just talking basic pendant light fittings, there's easy access to the void above (loft?) and holes from the moved fittings are being filled by someone else - no more than £100. Obviously depends on the cable runs though and a whole host of other things. Get some more quotes. :)
  • Ask your plasterer if he could do it? Ours did ours!

yes but did he do it properly?..... if not then some connector blocks are buried the ceiling (still with live cables) and may well cause trouble in future
