I'm lucky...I've got both these drills. I requested the sds when I started at my present company.

These are the two I would buy if I were paying.

Infact, I just had another bosch replaced with a 18v dewalt and this does the job of my sds bosch drill as well.

Bit pricey for a DIY'er, but willing to bet you never have to buy another.

If they were to spend upwards of say £100.......on a half decent metabo or bosch or even dewalt and it was to break after say 13 months , then they have no comeback.

I appreciate what you say regarding quality of tools , but most modern cheap power tools are of a surprisingly good quality , especially for Diy purposes.
it is still usually the workman/diy'er that is to blame - not the tools

A DIY'er will not break a dewalt after 13 months. This is a fact.
Even if this miracle was to happen, Dewalt would replace or repair it as a dewalt is made to last. If it did break, there would be no arguement from dewalt.

As for your last comment......When my neighbour comes over and asks me to drill some holes for her in brick..because her drill is a cheap £20 jobbie from cheapo land..and hasn't got the power to go through.....

What do I tell her....It's not the drill...it's you

Hi - Thanks Robowen for your advise. I agree that the bosch drills and the duvalt drills are excellent. But like alabad suggests, I don'tthink i will use it more than 2-4 times a year. So is it worth really putting 100 quid or more on it?
I think your profession is something to do with drills. And i understand that as a professional you want the best drills, but i have expewrience with drills.

i think you need to find a balance between price/ quality and performance

I have just fitted a couple of kitchens with a mate. I bought a Worx 18v cordless hammer drill from Homebase for £59.99 with a 3yr guarantee and he had a Bosch 18v equivalent.

We swapped drills and without a doubt the Bosch is better however it is about 4 times the price. The Worx was capable for every task including drilling into concrete.

So I would suggest double your budget and wait for a 10% discount weekend.

    I have had 4 or 5 £25 - £30 drills and they are a waste of money.

Maybe the best solution is to hire a drill when you need one.

I have a B&D cordless. I got it from B&Q a few months ago and it came with a carry bag and recharging torch for £24.99! I've seen the same model at as much as £70! We're renovating the house as well as building a workshop and its been great. Hubby also has a B&D corded that I bought him about 8 yrs ago. The chuck is broken but he still uses it in preference the the powerplus/powerpro B&Q ones or the Bosch he has laying about...

Hi - I think i will go for a bosch drill, although i know it's way above my budget, cos after all the recommendations, there is no person who has complained about a bosch drill.
Can anyojne suggest where to find the best deal and which model i should go for?
    regards

you could try here or here or here or even here sometimes you can get great deals on ebay for power tools. We recently got a brand new dewalt nail gun from an ebay seller for £215, these usually sell for around £350 plus Vat, apart from Ebay , Axminster are generally my favoured place for tools(not always the cheapest though) due to their great range , great delivery ,extra helpful staff -in one instance even working late to make sure we received our order the next day !

Ps this is just my opinion, i don't work there.

whatever you decide , happy drilling :rotfl:

Personaly the only Bosch drill i would recomend is the 24 v,i have had bosch 9&12v and they weren,t very good.
    For a 12v i would go for a Makita and 18v Dewalt
And for a corded drill Bosh GBH range
    just my opinion
