0% interest free card as an existing customer

A lot of the 0% interest free for x months credit card deals seem to be available to new customers so I was wondering as an existing customer how can I get another one?
From what I've read there can be a negative impact to cancelling existing credit cards and I'm sure there will be a cooling off period before you can re sign up and be classed as a new customer which would probably be different for each company.
So any suggestions on this?
