Hi all,
I've tried switching from Npower for gas and Electric but energy saving moneyback switch thingy people say I need to contact the meter owners to enable a change.
We are currently on Pre paid card for gas and key for leccy.
It astonished me to see how much wonga I can save.
I want to change to a quarterly billed usage tariff, as opposed to pre paid extortion>
So who do I speak to with regards to the meter changes If not the fuel supplier (Npower) then who owns the damn meters? I live in South Devon.
:o
Any help would be gert Lush Thanks.

  • This is a guess based on where you live, I would imagine SWEB own the electric meter and gas meters are usually owned by National Grid Transco.

Just looked at my electric meter and it says "property of Scottish & Southern Energy" on it. Does yours have anything like this on it?

Npower should be able to arrange to change your meters to quarterly meters (as long as you're not paying back a debt.) Don't let on that you're thinking of changing supplier or they may be less than willing to do it! Once the meters have been changed you can change supplier.

An electricity meter in a property in South Devon will be owned by Western Power Distribution (WPD).

SWEB was the supply arm before WPD sold it to London Electricity, now EDF Energy.
  • If you get the Serial Number of the Gas Meter and ring it through to Transco they should be able to tell you whether they or another gas company/supplier own it. I had a similar problem a year or two ago when I bought a new property that the builder had used as a store/office whilst finishing the others. He connected gas and electricity but had no idea who with!
The best way to escape a problem is to solve it :j

If you want your meter changing to a credit meter your supplier will need to agree this, it would not be done without their agreement (as your supplier has to decide if they will give you credit).
