Fig Brown Turkey - Root Pruning

Our fig which has been in for about 15 years is growing out of control.
Pruned last spring but quickly regrew all that was pruned.
Next spring thought I would do some root pruning.

Any ideas as to distance from centre of fig to prune roots to, about 2ft 6ins?

If you don't contain the roots in some way, it will soon do the same all over again.

That said, there are many fine specimens of fig trees in my local town, whose owners seem to enjoy them as ornamental trees/shrubs, so there is little containment or pruning going on here!

Hopefully someone with more experience will be able to advise shortly.
