Disabled bus pass and starting college

I thought starting college would be a change of circumstances?

I contacted the people at the library who deal with buss passes who said i'd either need to come in to the library or call the council on the number they gave me.

I called the council and the lady didn't even understand what i wanted, eventually when i got her to realize what i was talking about she put me on hold to speak to someone because she had no idea about it, then she came back with an address to post change of circumstances but couldn't tell me if starting college counts.

So i contacted the people at the library who deal with bus passes and they told me the only information affecting the disabled bus pass related to my disability, then they put me on hold to check and i got passed to someone at the council who told me the same and to keep using it.

So i'm not wasting the price of a stamp to send a letter to anyone, as usual i've been passed from pillar to post and no one has any idea what they're doing.

It seems to be a theme with government departments and organizations and really there's no excuse for it. It's a mess and it's disgusting, i mean everyone was very firendly and lovely but they literally didn't now anything about anything and all the while the call is costing me money.

disabled bus passes are issued purely because of disability so the only change you need to notify them of is a change in your condition.
the disabled passes in my area can only be used after 9 30... so would be of no use if i was at college... do check that you can use yours at the times you need to
  • I think if you get your DBP due to say getting high rate mobilty DLA, then you should be able to keep using it. Your local council website under the transport link should have a section for over 16 college travel, which might help sort out an answer 4 U.

I've got a Merseytravel pass but it's not 'cos of any disability it's 'cos i'm over 60 now. But as Nannytone says they can't be used before 9.30. And it's been on the news this week that Northern Rail is not accepting them in the evening 'rush hour' so that is 4pm.

  • Merseytravel Disabled Person's bus pass can be used at any time of day, including the rush hour. My son has one. When he received it, I asked about the times it could be used, as it looks like an older person's pass. I was told that even disabled people have to get to work....

the freedom pass can be used anytime too.
the derbyshire gold card is exactly the same as the pass issued to pensioners and only allows users to travel after 9 30 in the morning, so useless if you work or attend college

    Appreciated but i'm 31! :D

I'm going to an access course to retrain. I haven't come across any restrictions in my area regarding peak or off peak times.

I possibly mixed it up with the benefits change of circumstances which are a lot stricter, basically anything under the sun needs to be reported in theory.

Also coming off ESA and starting college in itself would normally indicate a change in disability, i'm surprised they take it on faith but it saves me a pricey dr's letter so can't complain.
