Comparethemarket website spam emails

When I clicked "Get Quotes" for a car insurance quote at Comparethemarket today I immediately within one second started receiving 96 spam emails from a multitude of sources, mostly about working from home, over the next 24 minutes which is something that I have never experienced before with any other website.
Before clicking "Get Quotes" I deselected Email and Post from the "I agree to have comparethemarket.com contact me via:" section.
Has anyone else experienced this problem on comparethermarket?

Never had problems with emails connected to CompareTheMarket and have used them many times.
Now on the other hand I get phishing emails to the email address I provided to Confused.com but they werent interested because I was unable to forward the emails to them to investigate because their anti-virus/phishing filters block them. Did consider going to the ICO but didnt bother0 -
What is the ICO please?0

Never happened to me and I've used them many times to get quotes. I also know that comparethemarket are very vigilant against this type of thing, therefore I would suggest you let them know about this so they can do something about it.0

Setup a free gmail account purely for the purposes of this test, use it for the quote, see if the situation repeats - then you will know if it is them or just a coincidence.
Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

If you think spam e-mail is bad after getting quotes, you should see the credit searches showing up in Equifax, etc. I used comparethemarket last week and got an 'alert' from Equifax, found several searches done by Insurance Companies that I had never considered using. Will not use comparethemarket again.0

They are ID checks or will be marked Insurance Quotation, potential future lenders wont see them/ wont care about them.
All aggregators will result in the same as will if you apply directly to a growing number of insurers.0
