Letter from Callcredit

Hi everyone,
I've received an unsolicited letter from Callcredit informing that a company call Foladunsi Ventures ( no idea who they are) has attempted to access details about me. They go on to say that they would not be able to get financial information just confirmation of name and address plus some items of public data.
They go on to say that they intend to remove this search from my credit file in the next month unless instructed otherwise. They then offer to provide a free credit report and also tell me i can get a free credit report for life from a website call noodle and be aware they will ask for credit/debit card details as proof of who I am.

Anyone else experienced this?
How can they check who is accessing my information without my consent?

Any advice welcome,

John

spacer.gifStatus: Active - Proposal to Strike off

So they going down for the count due to not filing accounts or other breaches of company law.

    Do they look familiar?

Accessing credit reports for ID validation and checking and public records would be consistent with a job agency.

But seems from that callcredit letter that they could have been doing this without (or with faked) consent?

  • Thanks for the info Fermi, I've never dealt with this company before and I'm not looking for a job either as I'm self employed.

Is this the sort of thing Callcredit monitor? I thought at first that I was being conned into paying for something except the letter doesn't ask for any payment. Not sure what action if any I need to take .

Dodgy people and companies do try to mine the credit reference agencies for information they should not be having, so maybe callcredit have intercepted such an attempt? I'm just guessing though.

Regards the call credit letter, if you intend to respond make sure you check that the letter itself is genuine and any site they direct you to are the real ones.

I'm sure it's legit, but you can't be too careful, as would not be far fetched for a scammer after bank details and personal info to concoct such a letter as plausible 'bait'.

Well that really fills you with confidence about the data protection "guarantees" offered by the CRAs - not! I've always thought that data about you held by the CRAs might just as well be put up on Facebook. I wonder how many illegal accesses go undetected, given that the majority of people don't even know that CRAs exist?

    ...website call noodle...
It's NODDLE actually and they are legit. If you register you can access the information they hold on you once per month for free. They ask for a card number to confirm your identity. Unless you sign up for some bells and whistles (don't!) it will not be charged.
Are you for real? - Glass Half Empty??
    :coffee:
  • I think the Callcredit letter is legit, they aren't asking for any money and are offering a free credit report via a limited subject access request under section 7 of the Data Protection Act.
I think I'll make the request and see what i get.

    thanks everyone for your input,

    John

This sounds like a scam to me. Its funny that i too have received the exact same letter today. Foladunsi was also mentioned. i seriously think its an attempt by callcredit to alarm you so you will eventually begin paying money once signed up with noddle.
  • Doubt it's a scam if they are telling you a company accessed your file, hardly going to inspire you to pay for it. I'd get the Noddle report which is free, I've been using it a good while now and they're not trying to scam me.
