Squirrels eating flowers

Does anyone know how to deter squirrels from eating the flowers a lady I know puts on a family grave? She's finding it quite distressing and doesn't fancy my suggestion of hiding behind the gravestone with a rifle.
She's tried various flowers but they seem to have had a nibble at everything she's put on there - roses, carnations, even lilies which she was told they wouldn't go near. One solution is to do what a lot of other people do and put silk or plastic flowers on the grave, but I think she'd like to use real ones if possible.
Thanks in advance.

I've got a squirrel problem in my garden where they dig up any bulb or seed and have been snapping my sunflowers that weren't securely tied to canes. They left my other plants that were in pots alone this includes roses.
I was told by a neighbour to leave seed out for them as in theory they would go for the easiest meal. I haven't as I've got to the point where I would shoot them plus my plants are more established.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

I read somewhere that grated carbolic soap would act as an Animal deterrant.
